The Friant Water Authority (FWA) and the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation (Reclamation) will hold an online public meeting on June 8, 2020, to present and receive public comments on the Public Draft Environmental Impact Statement/Report (EIS/R) for the Friant-Kern Canal Middle Reach Capacity Correction Project (Project). The Public Draft EIS/R describes potential environmental effects of proposed actions to repair a 33-mile stretch of the canal beginning south of Strathmore. The canal has lost more than half of its designed conveyance capacity due to land subsidence caused by groundwater overdraft.

The meeting will be held by webinar with call-in and video capabilities. An email address and access to a smartphone, tablet, or computer are required to take full advantage of engagement capabilities. Pre-registration is required at https://tinyurl.com/FKCwebinar. Individuals that do not have email, access to a computer, or need technical support may contact the Project’s Landowner Coordinator Craig Moyle at 916-418-8248.

The meeting agenda includes:

  • 5:00 PM – Webinar/Conference Line Open and Technical Support
  • 5:30 PM – Meeting Begins/Project Overview Presentation
  • 6:15 PM – Public Comment Period Opens
  • 7:30 PM – Meeting Adjourns

For those who are unable to participate in the public webinar or want to review the presentation material in advance, a “dry run” video of the presentation is available at: https://youtu.be/wmtNBO17dLw.

A digital copy of the Public Draft EIS/R is available for download on FWA’s website at: http://www.friantwater.org/projects and Reclamation’s website at: https://www.usbr.gov/mp/nepa/nepa_project_details.php?Project_ID=41341.
